Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center

The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center was situated in the center of a very large nature preserve near Buford, Georgia. Construction on this project began in the spring of 2005 and the concrete structures work was completed in 13 weeks.

The structure was a combination of concrete frame and lightweight structural steel framing. The uniquely-shaped structure included sloping concrete walls, sloping piers and post-tensioned elevated slabs. Special measures were taken to keep the gang wall formwork from floating upward during placements.

The GEHC had a very impressive site concrete package that included pervious paving, miles of nature trails and an impressive man-made stream bed complete with granite outcroppings. The man-made stream bed was constructed of reinforced concrete. The stream was the focal point of the whole project and ran directly through the center of the project.
